Amazon’s Kindle reader is the market leader in the ebook reader market – but competition is increasing at the moment. There has never been any shortage of alternative readers for prospective buyers to choose from, but the large majority of these have been unable to compete with the Kindle on anything approaching equal terms.
However, the latest upgrade to the Nook from Barnes and Noble certainly looks like it could run the Kindle a lot closer. It features touch screen controls, which allows the Nook to be smaller and lighter than the Kindle. It’s a big improvement on the original Nook and it would be very surprising if Barnes and Noble don’t make up a fair bit of ground on Amazon as a result.
The iRiver Story HD reader is another new entrant in the market. Its main claim to fame is the fact that it is the first ebook reader to be integrated with the Google ebook store.
